Cane and I arrived at Franconia Notch at last!  Last year, Cane had struggled with his hiking.  Our mobile trail angel, Paul E., was able to recruit a hiker who volunteered to assist us by carrying Cane’s backpack, so Cane can try to hike out quickly.  So, upon our arrival at Lonesome Lake Hut, the first hut system of AMC (Appalachian Mountain Club) in the White Mountains, we had to use side trail to Lafayette Place Campground which was around 1.7 miles instead of going down on AT – around 4 miles.  This time, we hiked from Lafayette Place Campground going to Lonesome Lake Hut and stayed there to perform our first work exchange – work for stay in exchange for food and place to stay.  Sounds luxury?  Food – yes, but place to stay – HELL no….not for me and my old bones.  Ha!  We slept on the floor in dining hall and I didn’t get a wink.  I gave up and got up at 4 am watching at sun popping up at Franconia Ridge and watching 3/4 moon hanging other side of the sky.  Beautiful and serene moment.  I read and try to nap a bit, but blah!  My body ached and I had a nasty headache.  UGH…..The Croo (instead of Crew) at Lonesome Lake Hut were fabulous and warming!  They went out of their way making sure we need anything and answering our questions via paper and pen.  What a great Croo!

There was a scary moment when Cane fell head dive onto the rock and his helmet helped to protect his head from cracking open like what it happened to him last year in PA. His neck hurt from the impact. He is nursing his headache, but he is ok. He said he was blessed to have his helmet on.

Oh no, the Internet Cafe is closing.  Will have to update at another time.  Until next time, folks!
