Greetings Dear Family, Friends, and Angels,

Seasonal salutations to you!  We hope this finds you in good health and spirits.  While we are getting ready to celebrate our holiday, I am taking time to write our holiday greetings to all of you.

The year 2012 has been especially noteworthy for us.  We completed a leg between New Jersey and Massachusetts in the “wet” Spring despite my partially torn ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) and meniscus I suffered in early of hiking.  I am fortunate to be able to move around with less pain as time goes.  My specialist said that due to my active lifestyle, I may require a surgery on my right knee before arthritis sets in and it will be too late by then.  Great!  I plan to hold it off until after completing AT as it requires around 4 months of rehabilitation after a surgery.  UGH.

Cane struggled and completed most of section in the White Mountains, New Hampshire which was notoriously known for its steep grades and unpredictable weather pattern.  It was one of his tough “trials and tribulations” of hiking journey on AT.  Our hiking had to cease in late July due to Cane’s rib cage injury before the borderline of the White Mountains and Maine.  Cane recovered slowly, but not without terrible pain for a few months.

As of today, we hiked 1,925 miles/3,098 kilometers in total for past 3 years.  It left us with remaining 256 miles/412 kilometers out of 2,181 miles/3,510 kilometers to hike which we plan to resume our hiking in summer 2013.  That remains our aspiration to climb Mt. Katadhin since we started out from Springer Mountain in Georgia in April 2010.  Not only that, we are truly blessed with befriending our peers – hikers on AT, AT angels, supporters on and off trail and via blog, support from our family and friends, our health, wits (perhaps), and sense of humor, and faith and perseverance to accomplish our AT dream – do not give up, no matter how long it may take to accomplish.

As the wonderful holidays approach, we want to take this opportunity to send you our best wishes.  Even though in miles/kilometers you may be far away, in spirit you’re close to our hearts.  We would love to hear from you on our blog.

I am going to leave you with some pictures to enjoy.  All the best to you and yours in 2013!
